April: Big SSW Lines, But the Sea Breeze Calls the Shots

April is when La Bocana's wave quality reaches its full potential on paper. The average height is 5ft (1.5m), the average period extends to 13.8s, and a massive 60.7% of the swell arrives from the SSW-the first month where one direction completely dominates the wavetrain. Combined with S (10.9%) and SW (15.3%), roughly 87% of the surf comes from the favourable southern quadrant. Most heights fall in the 3-6.5ft (1-2m) range, with SSW alone putting over 21% of its energy into the 5-6.5ft (1.5-2m) band. However, ideal winds drop to just 38% of the time. WSW and SW winds combine for nearly 40% of wind observations, waiting to chop up those beautiful long lines. Water temp climbs to 28.6°C and rain is still low at 0.27mm/day. The message is simple: April swells are powerful, long-period and firing, but you must work around the wind-typically an early-morning window before the seabreeze ruins the surface.
