La Lancha seasonal overview

Best Surf Season (November - April)

La Lancha's most consistent surf window runs from November through April, when the North Pacific storm track nudges toward the Baja Peninsula and sends a steady supply of long-period groundswell toward the Mexican mainland. Average wave periods sit in the 13.4-14.0s range and ideal offshore wind from the N, NNE and NNW blows 85-91% of the time through this stretch. Swell directions rotate from WNW/W in deep winter to WSW/SW by spring, which is exactly the window that works best for this south-southwest-facing beach. Expect clean, rippable surf in the 2-5ft (0.5-1.5m) range, with occasional bigger pulses when a strong mid-latitude cyclone fires energy across the Pacific. Water temps are pleasant at 24-26°C, air temps sit in the low-to-mid 20s, and rainfall is scarce.

Fair Surf Season (May & October)

May and October are transition months. The ocean is still holding 3ft (1.0m) of swell and long periods around 13.5-14.0s, and the dominant direction shifts to SW/WSW - ideal for La Lancha. However, the offshore wind signal weakens (79-80% ideal) and the rainy-season boundary introduces more variable afternoon sea breezes and humid air. Surf remains very rideable, but consistency and wind purity are not as reliable as winter. These months reward an early-morning patrol before the seabreeze picks up.

Low Surf Season (June - September)

Summer is the low season for La Lancha in terms of wind quality, even though swell directions become super favorable. From June to September, SSW and SW swells provide 80-90% of the wave energy, but the northern-hemisphere offshore wind signal breaks down. Ideal offshore flow drops to just 63-73% and the percentage of southerly, onshore wind rises. This is the wet season too: precipitation jumps to 5-11mm per day and the water warms to 29-31°C. Tropical cyclones in the Eastern Pacific can occasionally send in pumping SSW/SW swell, but the odds of clean surface conditions drop significantly.
