La Source seasonal overview
Best Surf Season (October - March)
From October through March, the North Atlantic storm track roars to life and La Source receives its most consistent and powerful surf. Average heights climb into the 5-7ft (1.5-2.2m) range, with periods regularly pushing 11-13s. Although the raw swell rose is dominated by the NNW/NW quadrant, the long periods allow that energy to wrap into this southwest-facing stretch, and the west/southwest component becomes more influential. Add in offshore E/NE winds 55-64% of the time and you get the textbook recipe for pumping, clean waves. November, December and January are the standouts, especially when the NAO locks in a favorable winter storm pattern.
Fair Surf Season (April - May and September)
April, May and September are transitional months. The ocean is still rideable, with average heights around 5-6.5ft (1.5-2.0m), but the average period drops to 9-11s, meaning less push and a more delicate shape. The wind becomes less reliable in April and May, with ideal conditions only 45% and 42% of the time, while September starts to see the first renewed pulses of Atlantic energy. These months reward surfers who pick the morning windows and the smaller, inside peaks.
Low Surf Season (June - August)
The summer months of June, July and August represent the low season at La Source. Swell height averages only 5ft (1.6m) and the period dips to 7.8-8.4s, which puts the coast into windswell mode. The swell direction becomes extremely NNW, with little to no true west energy, so the spot loses its favorite window. That said, the E/NE morning offshore winds still blow consistently, especially in July and August, making it a fun summer longboard and grovel spot rather than a complete flat spell.
