Best Surf Season (June - August)

The Caribbean coast of Panama is a classic trade-wind wave pool, but the key to unlocking Isla Grande's potential is catching the windows when the relentless NE trades take a breather. During June, July and August, the pressure gradient across the western Caribbean relents and the percentage of offshore SW to W winds climbs to 28-36%. Swell from the NE still dominates - making up 93-98% of all wave energy - and average heights sit in the fun 1.1-1.4m (3.5-4.5ft) range with periods of 7.8-8.3s. This is the sweet spot: punchy, rippable trade swell arriving on a mostly clean face. Water temperatures hover around 28.7-29.0°C, and although summer rain showers are common, they rarely last long.
