Best Surf Season (June - August)

Although Playa Maria Chiquita never sees the sort of heavy open-ocean groundswell that grips more exposed breaks, the healthiest surf window is centred on the North American summer. The North Atlantic High relaxes and the ITCZ pushes north, easing the northeast trade winds and allowing the beach to pick up more S/SW offshore wind. June records 30% ideal offshore wind, with July at 20% and August at 22% - all while average surf height sits near 3-3.5ft (0.9-1.1m) and average periods stay in the 7.7-8.3s range. The omnipresent NE trade swell is not the perfect angle for this NNW-facing beach, but when the south wind arrives it grooms the waves into clean, rippable peaks.
