September: Fading Swell, Persistent Onshore Flow

September starts the slow slide out of peak trade-wind season. Average swell height dips to 1.3m (4.3ft) and the average period tightens to 6.9s, so the waves lose a little of their punch. SSE still accounts for 80.9 percent of the swell spectrum, with the bulk in the 1-1.5m (3.3-4.9ft) range (33.9 percent) and 20.2 percent in the 1.5-2m (4.9-6.6ft) category. SE swell chips in 18.2 percent, adding more variability in the lineup.

Winds are still locked in from the ESE to S quadrant, particularly SE at 56.8 percent and SSE at 22.8 percent. Ideal conditions remain at 2 percent, so Sero Beach remains mostly a blown-out, bumpy prospect. On the bright side, the dry season is in full swing-rainfall averages only 1.01mm/day-and air temp rises to 25.8°C while water temp holds near 25.3°C. The swell might be fading, but those strong SE days are still producing daily high-energy surf, just not the sparkling lines most surfers are after.
