Best Surf Season (August - October)

The southwest monsoon, or Habagat, becomes Boulevard's best friend in late summer. This is the window when the monsoon trough pushes persistent offshore flow from the WSW, W and WNW across the east-facing beach, while the tail end of the easterly trade-wind swell and early typhoon pulses in the Philippine Sea send clean 2-4ft (0.6-1.2m) waves with periods climbing from 9.7s to 10.3s. Ideal wind frequencies peak at 57-59% in August and September, and October adds a bit more size as the northeast monsoon starts to stir. The result is the most consistent mix of groomed, rippable surf and manageable wave heights all year.

Fair Surf Season (May - July and November)

May through July is a transition into the southwest monsoon: winds become progressively more offshore, reaching 43% ideal by July, but the swell engine remains weak, with average heights around 2-3ft (0.6-0.9m) and shorter-period, grovelly conditions. November is the mirror image: the northeast monsoon returns and average wave heights jump to around 5ft (1.5m), but the percentage of ideal wind plummets to 14%. Expect fun sessions if you pick the windows, but not the dependability of the August-October core season.

Low Surf Season (December - April)

The northeast monsoon, or Amihan, dominates from December through April. This is the season of maximum swell size - average heights of 4-6ft (1.2-1.8m) and peaks in the 6-8ft (1.8-2.4m) range - but it comes at a steep cost. The same NE and ENE flow that generates the swell blows onshore or cross-onshore across an east-facing beach, leaving Boulevard lumpy, windblown and often closeouts. Ideal wind frequencies bottom out at 2-7%. The few good days occur when a weakening high-pressure system allows a brief westerly offshore breeze or when early morning light winds align before the trades shred the surface.
