November: Size Returns, Wind Follows

November marks the return of the Northeast Monsoon in earnest, and with it the first consistent stretch of real height. The average swell height rises to 3ft (1.0m) and the period stays healthy at 9.8s. The swell rose is loaded with NE (40.1 percent) and ENE (50.2 percent), plus NNE at 5.7 percent - nearly all of it inside Mabuntok's optimal direction window. But the Amihan also brings onshore NE/ENE winds; those two directions combine for 32.1 percent of all wind observations, and ideal offshore wind drops to 15 percent. The result is a classic autumn trade wind setup: plenty of 3ft (1.0m) surf, occasional bigger sets, but more lumpy and windblown surfaces than October. Early season cold surges can also produce larger pulses of 4-5ft (1.2-1.5m) swell, usually accompanied by strong onshore winds. Air temperature is 27.5°C, water is 28.9°C, and rainfall rises to 11.6 mm/day as storm systems become more frequent.
