January: Big NE Swell, Harsh Winds

The new year kicks off with Pacifico under the full grip of the Northeast Monsoon. Average swell height is a solid 1.7m, squarely in the 'pumping, heavy, firing' range, and the average period of 9.5s keeps waves punchy and rideable if the wind plays ball. But it rarely does. The wave rose is dominated by NE (57.4%) and ENE (30.4%) swell-nearly 90% of the energy comes from directions that are largely shadowed or misaligned with Pacifico's favorable west-swell window. Meanwhile, winds blow from the ENE (32.1%), NE (26.5%), and E (14.6%) for the vast majority of the time, creating onshore and cross-shore mess. Ideal offshore flow is nearly nonexistent at just 2%. Air temperatures average 27.2°C with significant rainfall at 16.32 mm/day, and water temp sits at 27.7°C, so it's warm but often wet. In short, January holds some serious swell but very little quality at Pacifico; only the most desperate or the most protected corners see rideable waves.
