Best Surf Season (November - February)

The northeast monsoon drives the most consistent and significant swell of the year. In November, December, January and February, average swell heights climb to 5-7ft (1.5-2.2m) with peak periods in the 7.5-8.0 second range. Although the dominant swell direction is from the NNE and NE, this is the time when Star Tubes receives the most raw energy. The larger swells, combined with occasional NW and NNW pulses, offer the best quality waves. Ideal wind windows are at their highest during October and November, while the trade winds tend to blow in moderate-to-fresh pulses. Look for clean windows when the wind shifts into the west.

Fair Surf Season (March - April & September)

Transition months are a mixed bag. March and April see the northeast monsoon fade, leaving smaller swells of 3-4ft (0.9-1.2m) with periods around 7.0-7.4s. September stands out as the gem of the fair season, with a swell direction mix that includes a higher percentage of favorable NW-NNW energy and a robust 53% ideal wind score. The waves are not huge, but the quality jumps when the angle lines up right.

Low Surf Season (May - August)

From May through August, the southwest monsoon takes a firm grip on the Philippines. Swell becomes overwhelmingly dominated by short-period SW-WSW windswell, which does not suit the west-northwest facing orientation of Star Tubes. Wave heights average a meager 2-4ft (0.6-1.3m), with periods dropping into the 6.5-7.4s range. Heavy tropical rainfall and warm water add to the mix. This is the low season, although June and August can still produce the odd fun-sized day when the swell pushes more westerly.
