Though the island itself offers exclusive surf, the mainland peaks are open to all who seek them. Getting there is straightforward—hire a jetski or an outrigger boat for a smooth trip, and you’ll find a mellow, uncrowded lineup that lets you focus on the ride. This is expert territory. The wave rears up over a shallow reef carpeted in thick seaweed and dead coral, delivering a quick, hollow wall that demands respect and experience. Star Tubes starts working at 3 feet and is most reliable with a north, northwest, or northeast swell. Time your session for mid to high tide, and aim for a light, offshore breeze out of the southeast to shape up the face. The mix of sharp reef and challenging speed means only the skilled need apply—but for those who are, it’s a session to remember.

Best Surf Season (November - February)

The northeast monsoon drives the most consistent and significant swell of the year. In November, December, January and February, average swell heights climb to 5-7ft (1.5-2.2m) with peak periods in the 7.5-8.0 second range. Although the dominant swell direction is from the NNE and NE, this is the time when Star Tubes receives the most raw energy. The larger swells, combined with occasional NW and NNW pulses, offer the best quality waves. Ideal wind windows are at their highest during October and November, while the trade winds tend to blow in moderate-to-fresh pulses. Look for clean windows when the wind shifts into the west.
