Best Surf Season (October - March)

Ingrina is a south-facing Algarve beach, so the reliable offshore north and north-northeasterly winds and the huge Atlantic fetch conspire to make winter the magic window. From October through March, the North Atlantic low-pressure conveyor belt regularly fires extratropical storms, lifting average swell heights into the 6-8ft (1.8-2.4m) range with periods of 11 to 13 seconds. The south-facing aspect means direct SSE-SSW swell is the holy grail, but the more common long-period WNW-NW groundswell wraps around the Ponta de Sagres with genuine power. When the NAO index slips negative, the storm track shifts southward and Ingrina picks up some of the most consistent, hollow surf of the year. Post-cold-frontal N/NNW winds groom the faces to perfection around 25-35% of the time, making this the season to circle on the calendar.
