Today's Surf Conditions at Porto Batel
Best Surf Season & Climatology
Best Surf Season (October - March)
Porto Batel is a true winter spot on the Portuguese coast. From October through March, the North Atlantic storm track sharpens and low-pressure systems march east across the ocean, firing consistent long-period groundswell toward the Iberian Peninsula. Average swell heights sit between 8-9ft (2.5-2.8m) with periods in the 12-13s range, placing the surf firmly in powerful long-period territory. This is also when the offshore wind windows are most reliable, with ideal conditions occurring 40-44% of the time. When the North Atlantic Oscillation dips negative or neutral, the storm track pushes south and Porto Batel reaps the rewards. Expect pumping, sometimes XL days, but also plenty of clean, heavy, ridable surf between fronts.
