The North Atlantic storm track powers up in October, and by November through March Santo Amaro sits on the receiving end of repeated low-pressure systems spinning between Greenland and the Bay of Biscay. Average swell heights climb to 2-2.5m (6-8ft) with periods of 11-13s, providing the consistent, powerful groundswell this SSE-facing beach needs to show its shape. The dominant WNW-NNW window brings the most energy, while the rare ESE-to-S directions can deliver perfection when they align with N-NW offshore winds. Expect occasional XL days above 2.5m (8ft) and a mix of storm fronts; after a cold front passes, the north-westerly wind often cleans up the lines.
