Best Surf Season (December - March)

The South African summer gifts Humewood Pier its most consistent and surfable conditions. Offshore wind percentages peak at 28%, the sea hits a warm 19.6-20.4°C, and the mid-latitude high pressure system settles neatly to the west, funnelling light WSW-SW flow across the pier. The swell mix is dominated by SSW groundswell (27-29%) with a healthy secondary S component, producing average wave heights around 2m (6.5-6.6ft) and periods of 10.7-11.4s. These are not the huge winter pulses, but the quality is far higher because the wind is more frequently offshore and the water is pleasant. Morning sessions with a clean WSW breeze and 3ft of groomed face are the hallmark of this season.
