The southern winter is when Victoria Bay truly wakes up. As cold fronts roll out of the South Atlantic and angle toward the Cape, average wave heights climb to a solid 8-8.5ft (2.4-2.6m) and average periods reach a powerful 12-12.3s. Critically, the offshore wind clock becomes far more favourable: ideal N-NNW wind conditions jump to 52-63%, and strong NNW/NW flows dominate the wind sector, grooming the long-period swell better than at any other time of year. This is the prime window for consistent, hollow, sandbar-perfect Victoria Bay.
