Warner Beach seasonal overview

Best Surf Season (April - August)

Winter is when Warner Beach hits its stride. The Indian Ocean's mid-latitude storm track shifts northward, firing long-period S to SSE groundswell towards the KwaZulu-Natal coast. With average wave periods climbing to 10.0-10.8s, these are not just windswell lines; they are powerful, organised swells. On top of that, the flow around strong interior highs frequently delivers offshore W/WNW/NW winds, pushing the ideal wind window up to 46-63% of the time. Expect clean 5-6ft (1.7-1.8m) surf, a drier feel, and water temperatures still holding at a pleasant 21-24°C.

Fair Surf Season (March & September)

These shoulder months are the bridge between summer and winter regimes. Energy levels remain solid, with average heights around 5-6ft (1.7-1.8m), and wave periods are respectable at 9.6-9.8s. The swell direction flips between E/ESE summer pulses and S/SSE winter groundswell, while ideal offshore wind percentages climb into the mid-30s. You will find more workable days than in the summer months, but with a slightly lower consistency than the heart of winter.

Low Surf Season (October - February)

Summer at Warner Beach is a different beast. The subtropical high reconfigures, the NE/ENE trade-wind flow strengthens, and convection brings thunderstorms and higher rainfall. Average wave periods drop to 8.7-9.4s, meaning a lot of short-period, sectiony E/ESE windswell and local S/SE sea-breeze waves. Although the average height remains 5-6ft (1.6-1.8m), quality is often compromised by onshore and cross-shore winds. Only 21-27% of the time are winds truly ideal. That said, the warm water (22-25°C) and consistent waist-to-chest-high waves keep the stoke alive, especially when a tropical low or a strong cold front edges in.
