Neminja

Nemiña is a remote gem on the wild western coast, a west-facing beachbreak and rivermouth that delivers sand-bottom waves with quality. Multiple peaks fan out across the beach, offering both lefts and rights, while the standout feature is a fast, zipping left at the Ria de Lires that really gets the heart pumping. The setting is nothing short of cinematic – a picturesque landscape framed by untouched nature, where solitude reigns for much of the year and crowds are a rare luxury. This spot suits intermediate to advanced surfers who can work with shifting banks and the occasional river current, especially when a west swell fills in. For the cleanest lines, time it with a mid to incoming tide and light offshore winds to smooth out the face.

Best Surf Season (October - March)

Neminja is a south-west facing beach on Spain's wild north coast, which means it lives for swell that has a genuine westerly component. From October through March, the North Atlantic storm machine cranks into high gear, with one low-pressure system after another racing toward the Bay of Biscay. Average swell heights sit at 2.4-3.2m (8-10.5ft) and periods regularly reach 11.3-12.9s, so there is almost always serious groundswell in the water. The catch is that these same storms often drag southerly and south-westerly winds across the region. Neminja's offshore wind window is from the north-east through east, and when a strong Atlantic low is followed by a reinforcing parent high, the sky clears and offshore NNE/NE/ENE/E flow will groom these long-period lines into clean, powerful surf. This is the time to hunt Neminja at its heaviest and best.
