Best Surf Season (September - March)

Casino Pier faces due east into the open Atlantic, so the best surf is a two-part equation: easterly quadrant swell and westerly offshore wind. From September through March, the North Atlantic storm track is active enough to keep average surf heights around 3-4ft (0.9-1.2m), with the coldest winter months regularly averaging 4-5ft (1.2-1.5m). Early in this window, tropical energy and transitioning hurricanes can fire long-period E/ESE/SE swell, while late autumn and winter Nor'easters add size and power. The frequent passage of cold fronts also swings winds into the W/WNW/NW quadrant, grooming those east-facing peaks into clean, hollow lines. This is the heart of the season at Casino Pier.

Fair Surf Season (April - May & August)

April and May are transitional months. Average heights ease to 3-4ft (0.9-1.2m) and the E/SE swell window remains well represented, but southerly windflow starts to take over and onshore tendencies increase. August is the late-summer wildcard: background SE/SSE windswell is modest, yet Cape Verde hurricane season can throw unexpected E/SE groundswell at the Jersey Shore.

Low Surf Season (June - July)

June and July are the smallest months of the year at the pier. Average swell heights drop to 2-3ft (0.6-0.9m), with a strong S/SSE/SE windswell pattern dominating. The summer Bermuda High sets up around the coast, and while morning winds can be light and offshore, the lack of open-ocean swell generation means mostly soft, small peaks. Unless a tropical system wanders up the coast, expect groveling conditions.
