January: Deep-Winter North Atlantic Pulse

The year opens with a solid dose of winter energy on the Atlantic side of the island. Table Top sees an average swell height of 5ft (1.5m) with a 10-second period, which is enough to put some real push into the reef. The wave rose shows a swell spectrum anchored by NE at 32.9%, ENE at 25.5% and NNE at 21.2%, while pure north and NNW add another 13.1%. For this spot, the NNE-NNW part of that spread is the golden ticket, because it arrives with a direction that matches the beach's NNW exposure and produces the long, clean walls Table Top is known for.

Wind is the trade-off in January. The trades are firmly in place, with ENE at 41.3%, E at 23.2% and NE at 15.4% combining to dominate the month. Southeast through south-southwest winds, the true offshore directions for this break, are a smaller piece of the puzzle, which matches the 25% ideal-wind statistic. When the wind does clock around to the south, the break cleans right up. Air temperatures average 25.0°C, water temperature is a warm 26.6°C, and rain is modest at about 2.1mm/day, so the reef is generally in good shape.
