Best Surf Season (April - August)

Avalon swings into its cleanest, most consistent groove as the Tasman Sea cranks up during autumn and winter. Average swell periods rise from 8.1s in summer to 9.2-9.5s in the April-August stretch, and the wind distribution becomes much friendlier to this southeast-facing beach. Western offshore flow from W, WNW, NW and NNW appears more regularly, pushing the percentage of ideal wind to a seasonal high of 42% in July and keeping it at or above 34% for most of this window. Swell arrives steadily from E/ESE/SE/SSE, delivering clean, punchy 3-5ft (1-1.5m) surf and regular 5-8ft (1.5-2.5m) pulses when Tasman lows crank.
