Best Surf Season (December - March)

Playa Hermosa faces southwest onto Costa Rica's central Pacific, making it a rare spot that lines up beautifully with long-period Southern Hemisphere groundswell. The heart of the dry season delivers the cleanest and most consistent surf of the year. With the subtropical high parked over the Caribbean, N, NNE, NE and ENE flow spills through the Costa Rican mountain gaps and blows offshore across the southwest-facing beach. Wave heights average 3-4ft (0.9-1.2m) but the energy is not the story - the texture is. Long, 12-14s SSW groundswell hits the sand in clean, rippable lines, and ideal wind blows up to 36 percent of the time in February. March adds a bit more size while keeping that dry-season structure.
