Best Surf Season (May - September)

The southern Indian Ocean enters full winter mode during these months, and Macaronis lines up perfectly with the storm track. Low-pressure systems spinning through the 'Roaring Forties' send consistent long-period SSW/SW groundswell toward the Mentawai chain, with average swell heights around 5-6ft (1.5-1.7m) and periods climbing from 13.9s to 14.3s. At the same time, the Mascarene High strengthens and pumps a persistent trade-wind flow over the region; ideal surfing wind jumps to 52-60 percent. July and August sit at the peak, when the combination of 14.3s energy and groomed conditions makes Macaronis one of the most reliable heavy left-hand reefs on the planet.
