The wave breaks over a bed of dead coral, delivering primarily right-handers that can bend into makeable barrels when conditions align. The vibe here is refreshingly mellow, a welcome escape from crowded lineups. That said, don't let the laid-back atmosphere fool you—the waves pack noticeable punch, making this a playground best suited for intermediate surfers who have their fundamentals dialed. The Hook starts to wake up with swell from around 2 feet (0.6 meters) and remains rideable across the full tidal range, from low to high. Optimal conditions call for small, glassy mornings with a light north wind smoothing out the faces. Be mindful that the spot does not favor southeast trade winds or oversized swell events; timing is everything. Best Surf Season (January - April)

The northwest monsoon breathes life into Yo-Yos during this window. As the pressure gradient shifts, offshore winds from N to NNW blow across the SSW-facing beach with much greater frequency, grooming the persistent SSW and SW groundswell into clean, orderly lines. Average swell heights hover around 4-5ft (1.2-1.5m) with strong 12.6-13.8s periods, offering a consistently rippable, powerful wave. February is the standout month with a full 50% ideal wind frequency, making it the most reliable strike mission of the year. This is the prime season for both intermediate and advanced surfers chasing hollow, well-shaped reef peaks.
