Nestled within a sweeping sandy bay, Los Frailes is a classic left reef break that beckons intermediate surfers with its raw, unpolished charm. While not the most consistent wave in the region, this spot delivers genuine magic when the right swell lines march in from the southeast. A solid 2-foot pulse is enough to wake the uneven reef, sending smooth, peeling lefts across the bay. The wave handles some southwest swell too, but it’s the southeast fetch that truly makes it sing. Best under a gentle northwest breeze, the break remains surfable across all tides—giving you flexibility to time your session just right. Crowds are sparse and consistency low, meaning you’re more likely to find open faces and your own rhythm. When conditions align, Los Frailes offers a rewarding, uncrowded playground for those willing to wait on the elements.

Best Surf Season (October - March)

The most consistent quality at Los Frailes comes when the northern Pacific storm track strengthens and high pressure settles over the southwestern United States, funneling offshore winds out of the N/WNW/NW/NNW quadrant down the Baja Peninsula. October through March brings the best combination of clean surface conditions and usable ESE/SE/SSE/S groundswell. The surf is not huge during this stretch - average heights hover around 2-3ft (0.6-0.9m) - but with a large share of clean, offshore-flow days, wave quality far outshines its size. Water temperatures are still pleasant, so no thick rubber is needed.
