Best Surf Season (December - April)

Playa Las Lajas is a classic tropical Pacific Coast set-up: a SSW-facing beach that depends on long-period groundswell from the South Pacific and offshore wind from the north. From December through April, the ITCZ is pushed south, subsidence rules the tropics, and the Caribbean trade winds pour across the isthmus as clean N, NNE, NE and NNW breezes. The waverose is dominated by SSW and SW swell, running consistently 2-3ft (0.7m) with periods in the 12-14s range. It is not a heavy, pumping beach, but the combination of groomed faces and idyllic weather makes this the best and most reliable window of the year. February and March generally produce the cleanest, most continuous surf of the season.
