The lefts off the point tend to be less rewarding, but the right-handers can serve up fun, peeling rides when the conditions align. April marks the true turning point at Playa Los Destiladeros. Average swell heights stay around 3-4ft (1.1m), but the period climbs into the powerful 13-14s range and the SSW swell window - the direction that fires straight into this south-facing beach - becomes the dominant source of energy. The wind machine also cleans up its act: ideal offshore flow from the N/NNE/NNW quadrant reaches 44% in April, 50% in May, 51% in June and 65% in July. The result is a long stretch of consistent, long-period SSW groundswell, groomed by offshore trade winds and delivered in warm 27-29°C water. This is the sweet spot for rippable, waist-to-shoulder-high waves with regular head-high sets mixed in.
