Best Surf Season (May - August)

The South African coastline roars to life during late autumn and winter, and Flowrider is no exception. As the subtropical high drifts north and mid-latitude frontal systems march across the Southern Ocean, the average swell period jumps from around 8.9s in December to 10.8s by June. Combined with a high percentage of westerly offshore winds - ideal wind windows peak at 60 percent in June - the E/ESE groundswell that reaches this ESE-facing corner becomes cleaner, more powerful and far more rideable. Average swell heights hover in the 1.7-1.8m (5.5-6ft) range, with a solid mix of 3-6ft (1-2m) waves and regular overhead sets.
