Best Surf Season (October - March)

El Brusco is a north-facing stretch of the Spanish coast that comes alive when the North Atlantic storm track switches on. From October through March, the climatological battle between the Icelandic Low and the Azores High creates a conveyor belt of strong extratropical cyclones, and the Bay of Biscay sits right in the firing line. Average swell heights climb to 6-7ft (1.8-2.1m) during the core winter months, with periods in the 12-13s range indicating powerful, long-period groundswell. The wave rose is dominated by NW, WNW and NNW energy, which is exactly what this north-facing beach needs. The best sessions happen when low pressure clears the coast and pulls in offshore S/SSW/SW winds; December and January offer ideal wind conditions more than 50% of the time, and October through March remains the window for the most consistent, heaviest surf.
