The North Atlantic storm track points directly at the Cantabrian Sea, sending consistent long-period northwesterly swells into the beach with an average size between 5ft and 7ft (1.5m and 2.0m) and periods often in the powerful 12-13s range. Southerly and southwesterly winds, driven by Atlantic lows and a negative phase of the NAO, blow offshore 38-42% of the time, setting up clean, lined-up surf on the better days. Water temperatures are cool but manageable, ranging from 12.6°C to 18.2°C, and the consistent swell is never far away. This is when Arenillas lives up to its potential.
