Oyambre

Nestled within the pristine Parc Natural, Oyambre unfolds as a sweeping expanse of golden sand, where rolling green hills meet the sea. Best Surf Season (October - March)

The surf year at Oyambre peaks in the winter half-year. As the Azores High weakens and the North Atlantic storm track pushes south, long-period northwest groundswell becomes a near-constant presence in the Bay of Biscay. From October through March the average wave height sits between 1.5 and 2.0m (5-7ft) with periods of 11-13s, and the swell direction is dominated by the NW/NNW quadrant - exactly what Oyambre's north-west exposure is made for. South to south-west winds, the offshore directions at this beach, accompany the systems 34-46% of the time. When the NAO is positive, the zonal flow keeps the low-pressure conveyor belt aimed at northern Spain and the waves can be world-class. December and January are the peak, but the whole window delivers powerful, long-period surf.
