June: Long-Period South Energy and Early Windows

June at First Point is all about timing. The average swell height slips to 0.8m (2.5ft), but the average wave period rises to 12.6s, meaning that when waves do arrive, they have real push and texture. The swell direction now heavily favors the south side of the compass: WSW (43.4%), SW (30.8%), and SSW (6.9%) combine for over 80% of the total energy. This is excellent for the point, as the south-southwest window is far more direct than the winter westerlies. However, the wind is the main limiting factor. Ideal wind drops to a yearly low of 32%, with WSW (19.0%), W (15.6%), and SW (12.4%) sea breezes dominating the afternoons. The surf window is effectively sunrise to late morning, before the onshore flow shreds the surface. Air temps reach 18.9°C, rainfall is nearly nonexistent at 0.08 mm/day, and water temps warm to 15.1°C. It is a small but clean long-period summer setup: mostly 2-3ft (0.6-0.9m) with the occasional bigger south pulse.
