Today's Surf Conditions at Oceanside Pier
Best Surf Season & Climatology
Best Surf Season (November - March)
Oceanside Pier is fundamentally a winter and early-spring wave. As the North Pacific jet stream dips south and low-pressure systems parade across the Gulf of Alaska, the pier sits in the direct firing line of long-period W and WSW groundswell. Average swell heights hold at around 3-3.5ft (0.9-1.1m) with periods in the powerful 12.4-12.6s range, and the west/west-southwest mix lines up beautifully with the southwest-facing beach. Even better, the cold months deliver the highest frequency of NE/ENE offshore wind - including classic Santa Ana setups - with ideal surfing wind 42-52% of the time from November through February. This is the window where the pier can produce clean, semi-glass, peaky waves with real push.
