Best Surf Season (April - September)

Jake's Point is at its best when the Southern Ocean storm track gets cranking through autumn and winter. From April through September, average swell periods climb from 11.5s to over 12s, and the swell direction tilts from south-heavy summer slop toward SW and WSW. These are the months with the highest percentage of offshore ENE-E-ESE-SE winds, particularly May through August, when ideal wind windows sit between 42 and 48%. That combination produces long-period, powerful groundswell wrapping into the WNW-facing beach, with clean, groomed faces and much more consistent quality.

Fair Surf Season (March and October)

The shoulder months of March and October offer a mix of good and average conditions. March sees the first longer-period pulses (10.3s average) and a jump in ideal winds to 30%, but SSW/S still dominate the swell window. October retains solid 6ft (1.9m) swells and 11.1s periods, but favorable wind percentages drop to 24% as S/SSE winds become more common. Both months can deliver excellent days, but you'll need to pick your windows.

Low Surf Season (November - February)

From November through February, the summer pattern takes over and Jake's Point becomes far more inconsistent. Average periods drop to 9-10s, ideal offshore wind percentages bottom out at 16-26%, and the swell mix is overwhelmingly SSW/S - a poor match for the WNW swell window. South to southeasterly winds add cross-offshore texture, and warmer water and air make it more of a beach day than a serious surf mission. There are still fun waves, especially in February and March, but the magic is reserved for autumn and winter.
