February: Still Stuck in the Summer Ruts

February looks very similar to January at Werri, with the average swell height nudging up slightly to 5-6ft (1.7m) and the average period improving a touch to 8.7s. The E/SE quadrant continues to supply most of the surf - ENE, E, ESE and SE together account for roughly 63% of the wave energy, and there is also a strong secondary pulse from the SSE and S. In terms of size, the 1.5-2.5m (5-8ft) bands are well represented, meaning there is more push than January, but the quality still suffers under the prevailing wind regime. NNE and NE winds are again the dominant story at 22% combined, and the offshore W-NW quadrant only manages around 7% of readings. This matches the 31% ideal-wind score. Water temperature peaks at 22.2°C, so it is warm and comfortable, but expect persistent onshore energy through the afternoon. The best chances for clean waves come after a southerly change, which can briefly flip the wind offshore and align the S/SSE swell with Werri's banks before the NE seabreeze rebuilds.
