November: Summer Creeps Back In

November signals the return of the NE seabreeze regime, and with it a noticeable drop in surf quality at Werri. The average swell height stays around 5ft (1.6m), but the average period falls to 8.2s, indicating a switch back toward shorter-period, locally generated windswell. The swell direction is dominated by the NE through SSE arc: NE at 14.8% and ENE at 14.2% are the leading sources, followed closely by E, ESE, SE and SSE. There are still some S/SSE pulses - S contributes 10.7% - but they are less consistent than in winter. The wind is the biggest limiting factor. NNE and NE winds combine for over 21% of observations, while offshore W-WNW-NW only reaches around 14%, leaving ideal conditions at 36%. Water temperature is warming at 19.2°C and air temperatures climb to 17.7°C, which brings more surfers out, but also more afternoon sea breeze. November is best scored in the early mornings or during brief westerly changes, when the NE windswell can be transformed into something ridable.
