June: Southwest Swell Dominates as the Summer Pattern Sets In

June ushers in the summer low-surf season. Average swell height is 1.0m (3ft) and period is 13.8s, but SW swell dominates with 61.1%, WSW adds 26.6%, and SSW contributes 10.4% - while W is just 1.8%. That leaves almost zero useful W/WNW/NW/NNW energy for the WNW-facing beach. The long period is a tease: these are deep-water swells, but they arrive from directions that are blocked or heavily refracted, so surf quality remains poor. Ideal offshore wind improves to 13% - a step up from spring - and the wind rose is more mixed: WNW 17.4%, W 15.6%, NNW 14.5%, NW 13.7%, WSW 10.2%, SW 7.1%.
