September: Spring Transition Slump

September is the toughest month for clean conditions at Senoritas. The swell shows no signs of backing down - average height is 1.9m (6ft) and period is 12.9 seconds - but the wind stats are brutal. Ideal offshore wind frequency hits the yearly minimum at just 1 percent, and S/SSW/SW winds combine for over 90 percent of the observations. The wave rose remains favorable, with SSW at 73 percent and S at 19 percent, so almost every day sees significant swell rolling toward the WSW coast. Yet the surface is almost always lined with bumps, making it hard to find the true, reeling quality the spot can offer. As spring progresses, the South Pacific high remains strong, keeping the coastal flow locked in from the south. Occasional equatorial heat pulses can briefly flip the wind to the E and create magical late-season sessions, but they are rare. Water temperature is the coldest of the year at 15.2°C (59°F). This is a month for die-hards and forecast-chasers only.
