The North Atlantic switches on during this window, and Furadouro sits right in the firing line. Climatological lows rolling east across the Atlantic pump consistent groundswell toward Portugal, with average wave heights running 4-6ft (1.2-1.8m) and periods often in the 11-13 second range - powerful, organized lines that wrap straight into the sandbar. The North Atlantic Oscillation is the big lever; negative phases tend to push the storm track further south and deliver bigger, more consistent WNW/NW groundswell to the Portuguese coast. As the Azores High retreats, frontal systems push across Iberia, bringing both the swell and the shifting pressure gradients that create clean offshore wind windows.
