Maceda faces due west, so the swell window is all about the Atlantic. From October through March, the North Atlantic storm machine is on full send: average surf climbs to 1.4-1.8m (4-6ft), periods stretch into 11-13s, and the frequency of offshore winds from the east (ENE, E, ESE, SE) hits a seasonal high of up to 48%. This is when low pressures and frontal systems marching toward Portugal put Maceda in the firing line, especially with a negative NAO phase that pushes storm tracks further south. Yes, you need more rubber and you'll duck more rain, but the spot is at its most consistent and powerful.
