February: Peak Wavelengths and Trade-Wind Texture

Similar to January, February keeps Wishing Well in the heart of its winter window. Average height remains 5ft (1.5m) with a 9.8-second period, and the same N/NE swell machinery is running. NE at 29 percent, ENE at 29 percent, and NNE at 20 percent are almost co-dominant, creating a persistent northeast swell train; N and NNW add another 13 percent. About 44 percent of waves fall in the 1-1.5m (3-5ft) range, 32 percent in the 1.5-2m (5-6.5ft) range, and 10 percent reach 2-2.5m (6.5-8ft), so there is plenty of push. Wind remains offshore-friendly from the east: ENE 38 percent, E 23 percent, NE 15 percent, with ideal wind 40 percent of the time. Cold fronts sweeping off North America are the main swell engine; when the NAO is negative, the East Coast trough can sit far enough south to fire long-period N/NE groundswell into the Caribbean. February is a strong, consistent, but direction-challenged month - look for lower tide and light E wind to make the most of the wrapping NE energy.
